If you can’t be a good example, then you’ll just have to be a horrible warning.

Chapter 20, Page 3

Many people would trade certain death for the success of their cause.  But certain death and the failure of your cause, weighed against success along with certain death and a lot of dead civilians?  It’s a shame there’s ‘certain death’ on both sides of that equation…

Jacob: On the other hand, it'll be cleaner than dying to a plague...and you won't take millions of innocents with you.
Msaka: Both scenarios are unacceptable.
Roger: Oh, no. No, no... Msaka, your troops are in the atrium?
Msaka: That's our secondary ambush point.
Roger: Lola is heading toward them.
Jacob: Msaka, tell them to surrender.
Msaka: No, Jacob. We can beat her, I know it...

What cheerful, confident, thoroughly unwanted optimism…

  2. CapnCoconuts says:

If Msaka fails, Lola will force the world into status quo, killing anyone who opposes. Not to mention she’ll deal with Fumiaki’s plague HER way. If that alone doesn’t kill millions of people, the Genocide Project will certainly rack up that kill count doing business as usual.

If Lola is killed, the retribution virus will take all of London and possibly the whole United Kingdom with it… it will kill millions, but it will allow world change to stick.

Mass murder happens either way, but killing Lola makes a better future possible.

  3. Dave says:

“If we’re going to die anyway, I’d rather die fighting!”

  4. Unmaker says:

    “Tell them to surrender.”
Wouldn’t work – as far as Lola is concerned now, surrender just means they won’t dodge until after she starts shooting.

  5. john says:

If certain death is on both sides of the equation, you can cancel it out. Simplifies the solving.

  6. EveryZig says:

I do hope they thought to bring some IEDs or something instead of just going at a tank with assault rifles.

  7. Drace says:

Yeah, they are boned. Unless a certain ai gave roger something to scramble lolas happy fun times wheelchair. And it’s retribution capabilities. And the kill switch she probably has linked to the facility’s retribution capabilities. And quite possibly off site retribution cases… and maybe orbital platforms of doom..
