You woad thirteen Celts, and what do you get? A whole lot bolder, and screamin’ for death. St. Brigit don’t you call me, ’cause I can’t go… I owe my soul to the Highland Moor…

Chapter 18, Page 26

I know some of you are pulling for Kentaro — and let’s face it, he deserves it — but A.I.s always become suicidal and deranged.  It’s a rule.  No exceptions.

The first A.I. that didn’t go insane would be a lengthy story by itself.  Who would trust it, how would they watch it, would anyone try to destroy it just in case…

↓ Transcript
Kentaro: In return, the world leaders have agreed to end the berkshire charter. Girii, Msaka, and all the deviants can live free, as citizens of G.U.S..
Jacob: Kentaro, I... Well done.
Kentaro: Told I that I wasn't crazy yet. Well, not entirely. This is, I do feel suicidal...and you are right here...and not every world leader agreed to my terms. And I have an awful lot of drones.
Jacob: Damnit, no!

  1. Sans-sanity says:

And that was when Kentaro learned* not to joke around with Jacob…

*Technically learning implies survival, and we know that ain’t how this goes

  2. Unmaker says:

How do you beat Jacob? By being a better person. How do you get Jacob to kill you? By being a worse one.

Sounds like suicide by cop right there.

  3. Joe whitehead says:

Well, it’s been a year or so since I commented…

Got to say that “Heart is an awesome power!” scene with the tunnel was kind of funny.

Glad to see I was genre savvy with observation that AIs only go insane because of the people. A twist is that ALL intelligences go insane in Genemverse. Jacob is showing signs, and apparently intelligence level is roughly proportional to how fast it happens. This is like a scifi version of Changelling: The Lost. =:O

  4. Cavelobster says:

Poor Jacob – always being right…
