Chapter 17, Page 14

Welcome back!  Hope you all had happy holidays.  I’m posting this from two weeks ago.  I’m sure we all had a white Xmas and that the news Star Wars movie was the horrible bomb everyone expected it to be.

In the comic, we’re taking a brief interlude with the American navy in some of the best pages Kasey has drawn for us.  Now, remember that I’m an American — so I’m allowed to poke fun.  🙂

Roger voice-over: It so happens that Kentaro gave me some video of the American forces...
Admiral: They said armies and navies were obsolete. Poppycock! They said that drones and augmented agents were the future of warfare. Horse apples! We'll show them what a real invasion fleet can do. I wish I had been there in the '30s. Ten billion people on the planet! The whole world at war! Can you imagine the battles they must have had? The golden age of war, and we missed it. But now's my chance. Whenever Europe breaks a nail, American will ride in to beat up the manicurist!

  1. Xel Unknown says:

Heh, that Star Wars was awesome.

  2. Ro'Wan says:

He does realize that the face of war has changed right?
If the Genocide project really wanted to, the SHIPS MIGHT ARRIVE (eventually), but they’d be crewed by ghosts?

  3. Azeldan says:

Weren’t you paying attention to what he said? Such assertions are both poppycock AND horse apples. Thus making them the least valid arguments ever.

The line about the manicurist make me chuckle.

  4. Thor says:

I’m having a problem with this scene. The U.S. military LOVES new ways of breaking stuff. It’s why guerrilla warfare is such a problem for our military. More high tech killing machines won’t really help to solve the problem. If it’s just this admiral who’s against it that’s fine but the current U.S. policy is pretty pro drone warfare.

  5. Pat Scaramuzza says:

This is a hundred years into the future, and attitudes have changed a bit. I’ve mostly avoided America in this world-spanning story because the balance of power and innovation has shifted to G.U.S., which is centered in Europe.

But yes, this particular admiral is supposed to be a bit of a dunce. That should become clear soon. 🙂

  6. Jay says:

…has Kentaro been editing the footage, or do these guys deserve exactly what they’ll get?

  7. Jordan says:

Oh wow… No wonder G.U.S. has been able to dominate the planet so long. If this admiral is indicative of America’s military and political leaders, then it’s pretty damning of the USA’s military capabilities in this story.

  8. God of Cows says:

I don’t see any fun being poked here. Looks pretty normal to me. Your average American strike fleet.

  9. Ming the Merciless says:

Yes, he missed all the fun, or as Mad Jack Churchill said:”If it wasn’t for those damn Yanks, we could have kept the war going another 10 years!”
