Americans understand that government is not a force for good (and not usually a force for evil), but a great big unintended consequence generator.

Chapter 14, Page 6

All I have to say about this page is…dwwolf, how did you know?  Four pages ago you asked what the odds were that the Chinese zombie plague came from the Genocide Project.  The story has barely mentioned the Jian Shi thus far, so there haven’t been any hints.

I guess you were just instinctively guessing what would be the worst possible revelation for this particular situation.  Well done!

Kevin: Part of the rationale for the Guayaquil plague was to remind the public why they needed us.
Lola: Kevin, shut up.
Kevin: When we sabotaged the Chinese supersoldier program, we could have just shut them down. But you turned them into the Jian Shi. Are you telling me that wasn't intended to terrorize?

  1. Jordan says:

Well… shit. This isn’t going at all well for Lola. She better have some sort of plan on how to calm down her fellow Genocide Woman or else she’s going to die very soon.

  2. Sonja says:

I KNEW Lola was the one who is in danger now…

  3. Oh dear. Things just got a lot more dangerous for Lola.

  4. Morgan says:

    Let me guess…
*Kevin manipulated this whole situation to put Caera against Lola and get rid of her without all the consequences of doing it himself.*
It wouldn’t be unexpected, you know…

  5. Madorakas says:

Caera just got a confession that the Genocide men was responsible for the catastrofe that made her people homeles. The fact that Lola was ultimately responsible wont matter Sh*t to her, she will kill them all. Upond failing to do so she MUST inform her people, then WAR will come. MUAHAHAHAH!

  6. Ming the Merciless says:

Bah! The Shadow knows…Lola knows…It’s all been figured out…She’s been pulling strings long enough! These two will get whacked…May need to use Jake to get Caera, tho!

  7. Jerden says:

This is the problem when you try to pull too many strings. They get tangled.
The question is, will Caera try to kill Lola and Kevin, or will she try to get the truth out, and then try to kill them?

    Guayaquil pandemic 2066

  9. Ming the Merciless says:

Speaking of Guayaquil, looking at the huge fast flowing rio Guaya covered in vegetation whizzing by at 20 knots, you’d think there it a pandemic uphill…but it’s just the abundant produce of luxurious jungle life going by.

  10. SpectralTime says:

…How does Kevin know that? Jacob doesn’t, or he wouldn’t have used it as evidence in that argument back in chapter one, so they’ve got have used the Lethe protocol!

But isn’t Lola supposed to be the only one who has access to what they do under the Lethe protocol? If Joey’s just been sharing with Kevin every time… cuss, that means Jacob’s the *only* one who’s getting his memories messed with by the protocol. He’s destroying his childhood for literally *nothing*!

  11. Madorakas says:

    *Mortal combat voice* FIGHT!

  12. Matt40000 says:

    @SpectralTime
You forget, it’s through dear Kev that Joey was able to remember it all in the first place (http://www.genocideman.com/?p=369) – before Joey got tweaked, they didn’t know about it, but I’m pretty sure Kevin wouldn’t not take the tweaks once he found out about the memory thing.

The point of the Lethe Protocol wasn’t to erase all knowledge of what they did, just how it was decided. It seemed to affect Jacob most, from what I can tell, but the minutes from the meeting were still kept.

  13. Ming the Merciless says:

Looking at Caera, Lola did not take all the teeth from the human race, as Joey complained…now Lola’ll have to work dentistry.

  14. Jay says:

@Ming: It’s Kevin’s dentistry that gave Caera her fangs back in the first place (from memory, his line was “Guayaquil markers, of course… but we can tweak that up to true aggression”!)
