Msaka is a smart leader. Where others might see a problem, she sees an opportunity. An opportunity for ultimate power, in fact, so you can’t blame her for grabbing it…

Msaka: Girii, we have a problem. Your empathy makes everyone agree with everything you say. I even felt your pull while you were contradicting me.
Girii: I'm sorry.
Msaka: Don't be. I'm envious. And I have a solution. We make you the leader.
Girii: Me?
Msaka: Yes. Your command will be unquestioned. The perfect figurehead. And I will be your trusted advisor, and you will do exactly what I say. Is that clear?
Girii: (gulp) Yes!

Girii has lost a lot of weight since the trio left Nunavut.
So given Giri’s empathy means she’ll control Msaka in much the same way she controlled Jacob, soon she’s going to be pulling the strings on the power that pulls the strings on the throne… which she’s sitting on.
The puppet shall be her own master, and Msaka will be tied up in knots 🙂
Zarylo, I’m sure it’s due to a reduction in blubber in her diet since leaving Nunavut. 🙂
Yeah, I hardly recognized her this chapter.
Ah, she’s just been powered down for a while. She’ll bulk up again when she needs her super-strength. Mass spontaneously created from nothing, it’s a law of comic-book physics.
And we all know the trusted vizier is ALWAYS a worthwhile ally.
“a reduction in blubber”
There is NO fat Inuit…slightly plump, maybe, but whale and morse blubber is definitely not fattening,
a perfect energy source, especially when you gorge until you cant even speak!
I told Michael back in chapter 9 to have Girii lose some weight. Living in the Rio slums has to be a good diet plan.
Well, Msaka is the only person there with a decent amount of experience in a leadership position. Experience is important in a situation like that, especially if you want to not die.
The only other person there even remotely close to being a contender for the role is Kentaro, and only because of the loosely-applicable idea of inheritance.
Empathy sure is useful. And like all other useful traits, someone else will find a way to use it.
