All right, this is a transitional chapter, which means I’m setting up things for later.  And there’s a lot of setup going on right here.  Girii is discovering that it’s difficult to motivate Jacob.  Which might be a good thing, since he’s pretty unstoppable once he gets going…

Girii: Look, I'm glad you didn't kill yourself. But I wanted to break you out of your funk. We've been running and hiding for months. Can't we do something?
Jacob: I'm a soldier, Girii. I take orders. I don't take sides.
Girii: Don't give me that 'I only follow orders' crap! You're one of the most dangerous men alive, you can do whatever you want!
Jacob: Pretty sure I'm number one, now.
Girii: I'm sorry, Jacob. I know that you don't enjoy killing. But you don't have to be a good soldier all the time. What do you want?
Jacob: Let me ask you something, princess...

    I’d say its more that he isn’t comfortable making world altering decisions, given that Joey revealed to him what happened the last time he was in such a position.
