I’d like to resign from the human race now. Its had its moments, of course, but I’m no longer comfortable with the direction they’re taking and I’d like to pursue other interests. You can keep my dues.

I think this is the third mention of Dr. Fumiaki in the comic. There will be more. Someone is playing a long and complex game, here.

↓ Transcript
Msaka: After she escaped Soroti, my mother was taken in by Bedouins. She lived in the desert as a burqa-wearing Wali, a holy woman. She was old and feeble when Fumiaki found her. He wanted to study her. In payment he cloned for her a single child. She died soon after seeing me for the first time. Fumiaki arranged my adoption to friends of his, a wealthy couple. Then he left Senegal to go further into hiding. My teeth were filed down. I was given prosthetic fingertips and liquid crystal lenses to wear. It takes a small fortune to make me look 'normal'. But then, my family fortune is quite large.
Jacob: So you got yourself into the senate, and built yourself a fortress. But why send me a box of skulls?
Roger: Maybe it's a death wish? I hear those are going around...

Discussion (3)¬

  1. Genetic “oddities” are generally not very long lived, aren’t they? Those I known passed away by their mid forties anyway…You add all their ages here and it’s about what happened here too.
The average short life span of the past where due to war, famines and pestilences. Prosperous mountaineers have always lived to phenomenal longevity, in Switzerland, Scotland, Bolivia…etc…

  2. DaveP. says:

Combat-‘engineered’ (we’re talking a package of mods cooked up by witchdoctors here, not USAMRIID) forms have got to have lifespan problems; too much modification working in too many odd wayslongevity probably wasn’t high on the list of priorities anyway.

  3. Gaijin says:

Though one has to wonder how much Dr. Fumiaki “fixed” in her genome when he was cloning her. He strikes me as the sort of person who wouldn’t let such an opportunity pass him by.
