When I wanted a character to fly, such as the Silver Surfer, I gave him a flying surfboard — perfectly scientific, perfectly understandable, and not the least bit as frustrating as wondering how Superman does it.

Third and last page in the Undernet, for the forseeable future.  If you’re new to the comic, look back a few pages; you’ll see that this isn’t the usual style.

In fact, I drew most of this page while on vacation, using pencil and paper.  Roger came out very cartoony — I guess that’s how I draw with paper — but I like it.  Roger’s avatar is a glimpse of what he used to be, more polished and slick than the scruffy coward he is now.

Zoey: I'm tripling your expense account, and putting it in an obfuscated pool so they can't track you. I'm also tripling your bonus pay, but you won't get that until the job is done.
Roger: My job is done. I saw him kill some guys. Isn't that the footage we wanted?
Zoey: You're a newsman, Roger. Can't you smell it? Whatever else happens, you're witnessing history. Get footage of that.
Roger: That's the smell that tells me when to run. Zoey, I like to film little events at a distance. I don't want to watch history being made. History's dangerous.
Zoey: Get used to it, because you're my man in the field. Just don't die.
Roger: Wait! Can you at least --
Zoey: Sorry, got to run. Bye-bye, now.
Roger: Zoey! Zo--ee?

Hey, I love the comic and look forward to the updates every Monday. I was wondering if you were ever planning on creating a store for the comic? I would love to have something from the comic and to support you in your efforts as a cartoonist.

  2. Remus Shepherd says:

    Thanks, Jake!

I’m planning for this comic to be released as a manga-sized book (or possibly three of them) when it’s finished. So you can get that when it’s out. Also, if I publish any prose novels I’ll be asking here for you to buy them.

Aside from that, however, I don’t need monetary support — I have a good day job. If you have money burning a hole in your pocket, I encourage you to support other webcomics instead, at least until the book is ready.

Of course, if you really want to help me right now, the best you can do is to tell other people. Spread the word. 🙂

  3. Jake says:

Thanks for taking the time to respond Remus, I’m looking forward to the books and I’ve plugged your site a few times to my friends, it is definitely one of my favorites.

  4. “Third and last page in the Undernet,”
Might as well, figuring out these Sanskrit Alphabet letters gave me a headache!

  5. Remus Shepherd says:

Oh, god, you didn’t take the time to translate them did you? They’re not in any specific pattern. They’re just buttons like most buttons, with a single symbol on them. If anything, the one on last page (‘Om’) was the only meaningful one.

Although you might deserve a No-Prize for noticing the alphabet system…

  6. Well, if humans are mass appropriators of symbols, then I would expect the human-imagined/created Undernet to display lots and lots of them on a headache-inducing scale.
